In January we prepare for lambing by checking the ewes's feet and trimming their toenails if required. We also clip the wool on their back ends and on their bellies, as the long fleece of a Wensleydale sheep can make it difficult for new lambs to find their way to their mother's udders.

Feeding, checking and generally looking after all the livestock and poultry. Pigs may need weighing, as some may be getting near to their slaughter weight of around 60kgs. All goose and turkey accomodation must be made clean and ready as the females will start laying in the next couple of months. Incubators are prepared to receive eggs.

Turkey "saddles" are fitted to hen turkeys to prevent the claws of the male (stag) wounding the hens during mating.

Hedges are trimmed as needed, after fruiting and before birds begin to nest.
