Old English Pheasant Fowl

This breed of fowl is reputed to have been known since at least the 18th century.  It did not get is current name until 1916 - before this time it was known under a variety of different names such as Yorkshire Pheasant, Mooney and Copper Moss.

They are hardy, active and prolific layers and passable little table birds with good flavour.  They revel in and need quite extensive free range conditions to maintain their health and beauty.  The breed is alert and active without being flighty or nervous.  The hens do not go broody often - say, once per season - but make excellent mothers when they do.  They make an excellent smallholder's fowl.

We hope in the near future to be able to sell hatching eggs and youngstock of this most useful and beautiful British breed of chicken.

We're looking to expand our small flock of poultry.  Local breeders of the following hens are encouraged to get in touch:

  • Red Dorking
  • Dutch Booted Bantams
  • Belgian Bantams
